A future, in which human beings will cease being human. Humans live, but they do not live.
The speaker is alone in a world full of people. He has a mother (presumably), but does not have a mother—he lacks a motherly figure of the present-day sense. He cannot rely on anyone, and he has no one to talk to. So he turns to his God, to whom he refers as “Mama.” In this “barren” land “without communication,” his Mama is the only one that the speaker can ask for help. Though, unfortunately, God does not exist in the digital era, and his Mama cannot do anything to help the speaker.
Chant of “careless, careless. shoot anonymous, anonymous” epitomizes the complete disregard of individuality. A complete abandonment of human interaction. “Caring” simply does not exist anymore. The technology believed to inspire creativity in fact did the opposite, since, in the end, “digital world” is made up of nothing but “0s and 1s,” and contains “no love, no generosity, no time.” The technology believed to spiral communication in fact did the opposite, cutting off all face-to-face communication between people. The only interaction that exists now is between those hidden behind the “mask of anonymity” who bear “eyes harboring the will to commit murder.” Something went wrong, and now people are “Heartless, mindless.”
The speaker asks God repeatedly “why people have changed so much” and whether or not a “beautiful world” different from the one he knows (“the digital world”) ever existed. He blames Mama, asking if he is satisfied now that humans are consumed with endless thirst for more. People think they’re freeing themselves by making themselves the prisoners of the “smart jail” (“스마트” here doesn’t mean “intelligent.” it means “smart” in “smart-phones.”). Speaker cannot continue blaming God much longer as God is his only support. Sudden shift in tone to a childlike beg (“바꾸면 된다고 말해요 마마”—“please tell me that everything can change, mama”) signifies that the speaker is painfully alone and desperate for comfort, so much that he cannot bring himself to blame a figure he conjectured in his mind.
Speaker goes on to describe the state of utter violence. He says “this is not a real war,” but later also says “this is not a game”: people can no longer differentiate between reality and digital concoctions.
He starts a long sentence, starting with “IF we could be thankful … IF we can make form relationships … IF we can laugh …” but he does not finish his sentence. He cannot imagine what would happen because he has never experienced such things. He doesn’t know what to imagine. How to imagine. After all, all he knows is the world that responds “no one” when he wonders “who cares about me?”
He lives in the world where creativity is limited to “0s and 1s.” Where everything is dead. Where the only communication between two humans is the threat of murder.
